Hypnotherapy is magically alluring, and for good reason. Often my clients seek hypnotherapy as a last resort when nothing else has worked. I can appreciate the concern my clients have for their challenges. However, I have a confession to make about hypnotherapy, it is not magic.
Not only is hypnotherapy not magic, but hypnotherapists do not have the power to over-ride your unconscious mind. If your integrity is not congruent with a particular behavior, no amount of hypnosis can force you to behave in a way that is counter-intuitive to your true nature, and your values.
What Hypnotherapy DOES do, is it relaxes the critical part of your mind, you know the part that is talking, talking, talking, so that you can rest in to the deeper part of yourself to find the true answers that are right for you. Often trance taps into the part of us that knows without words. So without words, how do we communicate? We need a precise way of being able to listen in to our bodies, to slow down for a moment and tap into the part of ourselves that is most like our true nature, which is free from conflict, concern and struggle.
I like to call it trance, because often my clients have their eyes open and they even walk around and create authentic movement while in trance. It is therefore a disservice to you, my future client, for me to paint an image of you lying on a couch doing nothing, while I wisper words in your ears that you have told me in advance you want "programmed" in to your mind. Trance is a collaborative effort, often relying on and requiring active participation from my client in order to insure that change truly has taken place on every level.
Hypnotherapy is great for a wide variety of outcomes, including:
- Anxiety reduction
- Eliminating depression
- Releasing bad habits
- Changing limiting beliefs
- Weight loss
- Pain reduction
- Building confidence
- Sports performance
- Reducing negative emotions
And much more. If you can think of it, you can in fact create it. I know this to be true because I have cured myself of a 45 year long needle phobia and eliminated my own chronic back pain that I had been struggling with for seven years.
